Instant Pot Duo Plus 60 Review
The Instant Pot company recently released two new Instant Pots and they sent me them to review! Today I’m excited to introduce to you the first of the two, the new Instant Pot Duo Plus 60 – 6 quart Electric Pressure Cooker. Here’s my Instant Pot Duo Plus 60 Review:
The Instant Pot Duo Plus 60 is a 9 in 1 Multi-Use Programmable Pressure Cooker with Advanced Microprocessor Technology and a Stainless Steel Cooking Pot. It is a Pressure Cooker, Slow Cooker, Rice/Porridge Cooker, Cake Maker (New), Yogurt Maker, Sautér/Searer, Steamer, Warmer, and Sterilizer (New).
What’s New?
- A Pressure Cook button instead of a Manual button. The most important function of the Instant Pot has always been pressure cooking, but people have said to me, I don’t have a pressure cooker, I have an Instant Pot. The new Duo Plus clears up any confusion there may have been about whether or not the Instant Pot is a pressure cooker. With the addition of a pressure cook button instead of the manual button, it’s clear that the Instant Pot is an electric pressure cooker. I can’t tell you how much I love this change! They’ve also changed the Timer button to a Delay Start button, which should end the confusion about that button as well.
- A Great New User Manual. The manual on previous Instant Pot models was often criticized for not being clear and easy to understand. The Instant Pot Duo Plus manual is a huge improvement. It’s well designed and easy to understand and use. You can find the manual online and much of it applies to all Instant Pots.
- A New Trivet with curves in the handles. The curves make it easier to grab the trivet / rack handles and remove it from the pot.
- Updated Display. The Plus has a new blue LCD display that lets you adjust the cooking settings and pressure levels at any time during the cooking process. There are 4 new icons to enable you to easily see the status of the cooker, Heat, Pressure Cook, Keep Warm and Sound. The ‘Heat’ indicates heating or cooking in progress, ‘Pressure Cook’ indicates the pressure cook program is selected, ‘Keep Warm’ indicates if it is ON/OFF, and ‘Sound’ indicates if the sound is ON/OFF.
- Easier to Read Markings on the inner pot so it’s easier to tell how full your pot is, so you don’t over fill it. There’s also an Instant Pot label on the pot. If you have more than one pressure cooker, it’s nice that it’s labeled so now you can easily tell which one to use in your Instant Pot.
15 Smart Built-In Programs
- Soup/Broth
- Meat/Stew
- Bean/Chilli
- Cake – The new Cake program is programed for frequently used times for cakes, like cheesecake!
- Egg – The new Egg program is programed with frequently used times for perfect hard boiled eggs.
- Slow Cook
- Sauté/Searing
- Rice
- Multigrain
- Porridge
- Steam
- Sterilize – The new Sterilize program can be used to pasteurize dairy products, sterilize baby bottles, jars, and utensils.
- Yogurt
- Keep Warm
- Pressure Cook – replaces the Manual button.
Wrap up – Instant Pot Duo Plus 60 Review
I’ve been using the Instant Pot Duo Plus 60 for two weeks now and have yet to find anything I don’t like about it. The Instant Pot company has truly listened to their customers and made changes that I think everyone will like.
The Instant Pot Duo Plus 60 would make a perfect gift for yourself or someone you love this Mother’s Day.

Disclosure: I was sent an Instant Pot Duo Plus 60 to review, but all opinions expressed are always my own.
Here’s a chart that shows the available Instant Pot models.
My Ultra was recently replaced with a Duo Plus v3 and I am very unhappy with it. Several buttons were removed and sous vide was added. I’d give anything to get the model you reviewed instead. I’m willing to bet the vast number of American cooks use soup, stew and chili way more than sous vide a technique totally foreign and one I’m not willing to invest the time or money to use. Gimme a V2 please!
My current favorite Instant Pot is the Pro https://www.pressurecookingtoday.com/instant-pot-pro-review/ It’s more similar to your Ultra.
Hello, I’m confused, the pictures are current (2021) or are they from the previous model, I’m trying to buy the most recent but it’s hard to figure it out.
Thanks!
Hi Mario – generally if they change the pressure cooker, they give it a new name so the info and pictures for this model are the same as when we first published it. I’m seeing lots of sales on this model right now, so it’s a good value, but it makes me wonder if it is being discountined. The newest model, the Instant Pot Pro Plus is significantly more expensive (we’ll post our review of that soon). But the model that is newish and my current favorite is the Instant Pot Pro https://www.pressurecookingtoday.com/instant-pot-pro-review/
The picture above is of the older Duo Plus. The newer version has different buttons.
Yes and I don’t like them at all. Scouring eBay and Craig’s list lol.

Can the Instant Pot be used for canning foods in glass jars as in regular pressure cookers?
awesome! 😉
I had a Bella Pressure Cooker and it died within a month or so. I replaced it with an Instant Pot Duo and the other night it stopped too! I can return it to Target (like I did the other one) as it is within the timeframe of purchasing it. I do think the Bella was defective from the get go but I didn’t know better because I was a new user. As soon as I got the Instant Pot, I loved it more than anything! I am now addicted and can’t live without one but I feel so unlucky losing 2 in two months of each other. Normally I would just say this is not for me but I love how they work, when they do work. You reviewed the new Duo Plus and I went to Amazon. Then I saw a new Instant Pot Ultra and it was written it was coming out in June 2017 and it had a dial front. Just wondering if you will be reviewing that one as well? Thanks for your help.
Hi Lenore – sorry you’ve had trouble with your pressure cookers. That is frustrating. I’ve used 5 different Instant Pots, and 5 other electric pressure cookers and never had problems with any of them luckily. I’m reviewing the Instant Pot Ultra next week and hosting a giveaway as well.
I love my IP. I have talked to all of my friends at work, now they all have pressure cookers and I always share your recipes with them. One of my friends tried something new with the peanut butter cheesecake. She substituted Nutella for the peanut butter. I have yet to try it, but she said it was to die for.
Hi Penny – I’m definitely going to have to try the Nutella version. Thanks for sharing!
These recipes look wonderful. Would love to give them a try.
My favorite feature is the stainless steel insert. Wonderful review. Thanks!
Used my mothers pressure cooker while visiting and loved it. Would love to have one of my own.
Good luck!
I didn’t think it was possible to love my Instant Pot anymore than I already do, but all these new additions in this newest version might prove me wrong. I would love the opportunity to test this theory!
Looks like some great additions. One improvement I would like to suggest is a retractable cord.
That is a great suggestion Myra.
I always thought my crockpot was my go to small appliance for cooking! What was I thinking!! My instant pot is my all time favorite appliance now! I received it for Christmas as a gift and love it!!
Love Pressure Cooking Today, you’ve been a lifesaver several times for me. Keep up the good work.
Wow!Great pot,we love IP cooking,thanks.
How fun! I love the new cake and sterilize buttons. Sterilize would be great for washing my jars before canning!
Shame I can’t enter the competition as it looks like only people based in USA or Canada can enter.
I am from England.
Sorry Linda 🙁 They do have a UK Instant Pot though!
I can’t wait to try this one out! Fingers crossed! 😉
You will be pleasantly surprised, hard to make a bad meal in this pot; best investment I’ve made in the kitchen for awhile!!
Like they say “soon we’ll have a pot for everything!” I think we are headed in that direction! Having a big garden and it would blow my mind being able to can fruits and veggies! Pure bliss!!!
If my mom could only be here to see this!! She would have been in awe!
Miss my mom too 🙂 She would have been in awe as well.
Often think of my dad when I’m trying a new recipe in my IP. He would have loved to have been the official ‘taster’!
Thanks Barbara for the review. You do realize that you’re only making all of us current IP owners “drool” over the new one and its features!
I look forward to trying this one with the Potato Soup recipe! (dumplings anyone?) *smile*
Thanks Terry – the potato soup recipe is one of my favorites.
I entered but think think it is messed up. 4 entries right? Mine only shows 3…Oh well still entered. Thank you!
You can enter every day 🙂 Good luck!
Wow, sounds like they made this pot even better! I would love to have one! Thanks for the opportunity and the great info and recipes
Thanks Joyce! They really did. Good luck!
I’d love to win the new IP. Looks like some great changes. Then my dilemma would be which daughter to give my current IP to!!
That would be a tough choice 🙂
Is the inner pot the same size as the original DUO60? Many of us have a second liner and it would be nice if it also fits the new model.
Hi Jan – yes, the inner pot is the same size as the original Duo.
I would love to upgrade to this. I live in an RV in Arizona and stove/oven cooking adds heat. This would be ideal for me.
Hi Bonnie – the IP really is great for the RV. I keep one in mine too.
I’ve been anxiously awaiting the addition of a canning feature!!! Love all the updates, and would love to win the new model!!! ❤️?
Good luck!
WOW! improved Intant Pot, I did not think it could be improved as its is a wonderful instrument. Would love to have the upgraded one! Thanks for the opportunity.
Good luck 🙂
What a beauty! And all those different functions too-a special one for hard boiled eggs and cheesecake? How cool is that? It’s so nice to find a company that listens to feedback from their customers these days.
I agree 🙂
Would love to have an extra IP to use in motorhome. Was planning on taking the one I have now, no matter what. But having a extra one, I can then leave it in the motorhome during the summer. Plus, there have been many times I have wished I had an extra IP to use. They are wonderful!
Hi Pearl – that would be super convenient. Good luck!
I would love this! I didn’t realize how much I would love the instant pot when I first bought it. I would love to upgrade to this one. I really would like the yogurt, egg and cake function buttons! Thanks for the chance!
So easy to fall in love with the IP right Leslie 🙂 Good luck!
Love my IP, Would love to try the new updates. Can’t imagine the IP getting better than it already is.
Good luck!
I am so excited about the improvements. I love love my IP. Should I win,my daughter will get it and we can have IP Cook Offs.
Hi Peg – I love the idea of IP cook offs. Good luck!
I”ve heard so much about the InstaPot. Winning this would be the right time to try it!
Good luck!
Thank you for the chance to win! I have a Power Pressure Cooker XL, and loved it so much my DD had to get a pressure cooker too. She got the Instant Pot, and now I wish I had as well.
I would love to have a duo instant pot. I have a stove top pressure cooker and this would be an awesome replacement for it.
Hi Lynn – you’d definitely love the convenience of the Instant Pot if you’re already in love with pressure cooking.
Sounds like awesome updates! thanks for telling us about them!
Thanks Eydie – good luck!
If I win, my daughter will get my old one. Love my IP.
yup, same here…share the IP goodness…pass-the-pot, eh ? Robert Wang,PhD & co deserve the Order of Canada for their sanity & safety creation. Entire familes, including those of us who are not that able-bodied to do the waltzing required for meal preparation, look forward to the coolness and silence of the kitchen and the IP bounty.
You’re both so nice to share. Robert created an amazing company and pressure cooker for sure!
The Instant Pot sounds awesome! Would love to be picked.
Good luck!
I saw a chart (I believe it was directly from Instant Pot) that had a comparison between all the pots? Maybe good to show?
Good suggestion Jody – I added a link to a chart at the bottom of the post.
How does the cake baking function work? Does water need to be added, or can it bake with dry heat?
Hi Joan – no, you can’t use dry heat in the Instant Pot. It’s more of a steam bake, which is perfect for moist cakes like cheesecake. If you haven’t tried cheesecake in the Instant Pot yet, you need to 🙂
Can the IP Duo 60 be used to sterilize baby bottles? How?
Hi Carol – if the baby bottles fit, then you can. You would use the Sterilize Pressure Cooker function just as you would any other pressure cooker setting. You can adjust it to use low pressure or high pressure and adjust the time.
I love my instant pot and considering upgrade. Will my existing inner pot and extra silicone seals fit this model?
Hi Carol – yes, the 6 quart pots and silicone gaskets are interchangeable with the new Duo Plus.
With the sterilize function now can the pot be used for small batch canning?
Hi Becky – the manual says the Sterlize program can be used for canning of acidic fruits and vegetables on the Normal and More settings but not for meat canning.
So exciting to see that they continue to make innovative changes to this already amazing kitchen helper.
Agreed! Instant Pot really is a great, forward thinking company.
Grew up with a stove top PC and sure could put this to good use. Perfect to use here in the hot desert as I could plug it in on the patio and not have to heat up the house!
Hi Marilyn – sounds like it would be perfect for you. Good luck!
