How to Make Instant Pot Greek Tacos

This Greek Beef Taco recipe will work in any brand of electric pressure cooker, including the Instant Pot, Ninja Foodi, or Power Pressure Cooker XL

Aside from quickly sautéing the aromatics in the pressure cooking pot, this is a simple dump-and-go recipe. The beef gets plenty of flavor and moisture from beef broth, tomato paste, oregano, and garlic powder.

In fact, you can make Instant Pot Greek tacos with fresh or frozen ground beef. If you’re using frozen beef, simply add two minutes to the pressure cooking time. The results will be just as moist, flavorful, and tender.

Serving Suggestions

To go with the Mediterranean flavors in this taco recipe, we like to serve the ground beef filling in fluffy pita pockets. (We usually buy a big pack of Papa Pita flatbread from Costco and freeze so it’s always on-hand.)

For toppings, try:

  • Sliced, pitted kalamata olives
  • Crumbled feta cheese
  • Diced fresh tomato
  • Diced peeled cucumber
  • Shredded lettuce

And of course, don’t skip the homemade tzatziki sauce!

Making Tzatziki Sauce

This is an easy, but tangy, creamy, and downright delicious homemade sauce recipe to keep in your back pocket.

Tzatziki sauce is a simple yogurt-based sauce. It’s refreshing and crunchy, thanks to shredded cucumber and lemon juice. Fresh dill gives it a signature flavor, though some preparations use fresh mint.

If you don’t like the taste of raw garlic, you can omit it from the tzatziki recipe altogether. You can also make this recipe dairy-free by substituting your favorite dairy-free plain yogurt.

Instant Pot Greek Beef Tacos

Yield: 4-6 servings
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 3 minutes
Additional Time: 12 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes

Instant Pot Greek Beef Tacos are a cross between classic gyro flavors and easy-to-cook tacos, made with tomato, oregano, and garlic-infused beef served in pitas and topped with homemade tzatziki sauce.

Ingredients

Tzatziki Sauce

  • 1/2 cup shredded cucumber
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh dill (or 1 teaspoon dried dill)
  • 1 garlic clove, minced or crushed
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Tacos

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small red onion, diced
  • 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 pound lean ground beef, fresh or frozen
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • Pita bread, kalamata olives, diced tomato, and lettuce, for serving

Instructions

Tzatziki Sauce

  1. In a fine-mesh strainer, toss the cucumber with the salt. Let the cucumber drain for 15 minutes over a bowl or the sink to remove excess water.
  2. In a medium-size bowl, stir together the drained cucumber, yogurt, lemon juice, dill, garlic, and pepper until well combined. Refrigerate until ready to use.

Greek Tacos

  1. Heat the pressure cooking pot using the Sauté function. Add the oil and red onion and sauté for about 2 minutes, until softened. Stir in the beef broth, tomato paste, oregano, garlic, salt and pepper. Add the ground beef.
  2. Lock the lid in place and select High Pressure and a 3 minute cook time. (For frozen beef, select High Pressure and set the cook time for 5 minutes.) When the cook time ends, use a quick pressure release. When the valve drops, carefully remove the lid and give everything a good stir.
  3. Select Sauté and cook, stirring frequently, until the water evaporates and the beef is browned and crumbled, about 5 minutes. Stir in the lemon juice and season to taste with additional salt and pepper.
  4. Warm pitas in the toaster or microwave and fill with taco meat. Top with tzatziki and other toppings of choice.

Notes

*Cook time is for the Greek Taco meat only. Make the tzatziki sauce in advance to allow the flavors to blend together.
