If you have an inverter sufficient to power your instant pot, and a decent battery bank, you can run an insta-pot off grid without shore power or generator.

We have a travel trailer that is frequently used as a hotel room on wheels. As a family of 6 this saves money on getting 2 rooms and eating out. To save time I prep all the ingredients in freezer safe plastic bowls that are slightly smaller than my 6 qt. They stack well in the freezer and most can be cooked from frozen. This cuts down on the extras I need to bring, or worrying about forgetting a bag of spices.

Hi Sharon – no, you’ll need to run the generator to operate the electric pressure cooker. You can buy a traditional stovetop pressure cooker that won’t require electricity.

We exclusively boon dock with no electric hook-up and I dont want to run my generator. Have you use your pot w/o using shore power? I Thanks

Hey Linda, Barbara’s having me respond to comments while she’s out on vacation. Your suggestion about the heavy-duty power cord is a great one. I’ll add that information to the post, along with the wattage info. Thanks for sharing that with us!

Thanks for the great blog, folks do need to worry about wattage, especially if they are in hot or humid areas. Most 6 qt pots are around 1000 watts, while the 3 qts run on average about 700 watts. I have had circuit breaker blow in Az,due to low power coming into the pedestal by turning on one Ac and having a residential refer going. We ate sandwiches that evening. I carry a 12 gauge heavy duty power cord, that I can plug into the pedestal and use my pot outside under my awning, thus keeping extra steam out of the RV. You cookbook travels with me for the excellent recipes.

Very timely as we just downsized our RV to 24 feet but there is room for the 6 quart Instant Pot! I look forward to using it this summer.
