However, if you like leftovers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressurecookingtoday.com\/how-to-use-the-pot-in-pot-method-in-your-pressure-cooker-instant-pot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cooking pot-in-pot<\/a> (making the main dish and a side dish at the same time), or two-fer meals (e.g., cooking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressurecookingtoday.com\/pressure-cooker-pot-roast\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">roast<\/a> one night then cutting it into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressurecookingtoday.com\/pressure-cooker-sirloin-tips-in-gravy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">beef tips and gravy<\/a> the next night), I&#8217;d recommend the 6-quart.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-container-11 wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<p><strong><span style=\"background-color:#f6dfc8\" class=\"tadv-background-color\">Best for College Students:<\/span><\/strong> Instant Pot Duo 3-Quart Pressure Cooker.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"background-color:#f6dfc8\" class=\"tadv-background-color\">Best for Small Families:<\/span><\/strong> If you&#8217;re cooking for two adults and one or two kids, the 6-quart Instant Pot will have everything you need.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re a new parent, the Duo Plus has a sterilize button; however, you can sanitize in any Instant Pot with a steam setting. It depends on how you want to use it. If you plan to cook big batches of dump-and-go meals, then I&#8217;d recommend an 8-quart Instant Pot or even the new Instant Pot Duo Nova 10-quart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, if you typically cook a main dish and a side dish, you may be happier simply buying two 6-quart Instant Pots so you can cook both at the same time. Depending on what you&#8217;re cooking, the 6-quart will fit a double or triple batch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"background-color:#f6dfc8\" class=\"tadv-background-color\">Best for Meal Preppers:<\/span> <\/strong>Seriously, so much food fits in the Instant Pot Duo Nova 10-quart. But until now meal preppers have been using the 8-quart without any problems.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"background-color:#f6dfc8\" class=\"tadv-background-color\">Best for RVs:<\/span><\/strong> Instant Pot 3-quart or 6-quart. (<em>Note: <\/em>Avoid using other appliances and air conditioners when using the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressurecookingtoday.com\/how-to-use-an-instant-pot-in-your-rv\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Instant&nbsp;Pot in your RV<\/a>. Also, check the wattage before you buy.)<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-container-13 wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<p><strong><span style=\"background-color:#f6dfc8\" class=\"tadv-background-color\">Best for Tech Lovers:<\/span><\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressurecookingtoday.com\/instant-pot-pro-plus-review\/\">Instant Pot Pro Plus Pressure Cooker.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"background-color:#f6dfc8\" class=\"tadv-background-color\">Best Two-in-One:<\/span><\/strong> Instant Pot Duo Crisp 8-quart Pressure Cooker and Air Fryer. If you don&#8217;t have a lot of space in your kitchen, this 8-quart is two great appliances in one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"background-color:#f6dfc8\" class=\"tadv-background-color\">Best for Star Wars Fans:<\/span>&nbsp;<\/strong>Williams Sonoma has a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.williams-sonoma.com\/shop\/gifts\/gifts-star-wars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">limited edition line of Star Wars themed Instant Pot Duos<\/a>. I think this is a good starting point, but there are exceptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Most recipes online are written for 6-quart pressure cookers.<\/strong> You may need to add more liquid for some recipes with 8-quarts and larger. So if you feel really nervous about going off recipe, I&#8217;d recommend using a 6-quart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2XMwLEe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Instant Pot accessories<\/a> will also be easier to find in a 6-quart or 8-quart size.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-white-color has-text-color has-background\" style=\"background-color:#d33043\">If I were to buy just one in each size, I&#8217;d have a 3-quart Duo Mini, a 6-quart Duo Evo Plus, and the 8-quart Duo Crisp.&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h2>Ranking the Different Instant Pot Models<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-container-15 wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<p>While people may rate each of the Instant Pot models differently, this is how I like to think of them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>High-End:<\/strong> Pro (completely redesigned giving cooks lots of customization), Pro Plus (everything the Pro offers, plus Wi-Fi and canning)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Specialty: <\/strong>Duo Crisp or Pro Crisp (air frying), Duo Max (15 psi + canning*), Smart Wifi (connected cooking)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Upgrade 2: <\/strong>Duo Plus, Duo SV (as of late 2019, both models offer sous vide setting, LCD screen, and auto-seal lid)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Upgrade 1: <\/strong>Duo Nova (LCD screen), Duo Viva (sous vide setting)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Standard Model: <\/strong>Duo (this is the most-popular Instant Pot and the one that all other models are compared to)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Budget Model:<\/strong> Lux (one step below the Duo since it doesn&#8217;t have a Low Pressure setting or yogurt button)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(A big thanks to Ella Patterson from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/TheElectricPressureCookerGroup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Electric Pressure Cooker Facebook Group<\/a>, who provided the initial Instant Pot rankings along with lots of great information for this post!)<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-container-16 wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">*&nbsp; &nbsp;*&nbsp; &nbsp;*<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>At this point, I want to include a brief introduction for new Instant Pot shoppers and a quick guide to the different Instant Pot models:&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image wp-image-33812 size-large\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img width=\"800\" height=\"387\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pressurecookingtoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Five-Pressure-Cookers-800x387.jpg\" alt=\"Multiple Makes and Models of Pressure Cookers, Including the Instant Pot\" class=\"wp-image-33812\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pressurecookingtoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Five-Pressure-Cookers-800x387.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.pressurecookingtoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Five-Pressure-Cookers-500x242.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.pressurecookingtoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Five-Pressure-Cookers-768x371.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.pressurecookingtoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Five-Pressure-Cookers-735x355.jpg 735w, https:\/\/www.pressurecookingtoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Five-Pressure-Cookers.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption>The third and fourth pressure cookers above are Instant Pots. (Other brands include the Ninja Foodi, Mealthy Multipot, and Pampered Chef Quick Cooker.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It works similarly to any other pressure cooker, and all of my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressurecookingtoday.com\/recipe-index\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pressure cooker recipes<\/a> are designed to work in your Instant Pot. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#eeeeee\">(You can get a LOT more details about the basics of how Instant Pots work in my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressurecookingtoday.com\/getting-started-with-your-new-electric-pressure-cooker-or-instant-pot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Getting Started with Your Instant Pot<\/strong><\/a> Series.)<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-container-18 wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<p>Also, just a note, the little numbers at the end are NOT a different model number. They indicate the size of Instant Pot you&#8217;re buying. There is just a Start and Cancel button on the exterior of the pressure cooker. You use the dial to select the cooking program, select the time, and make adjustments to other settings. The dial isn&#8217;t my favorite to select things, but I know many Pressure Cooking Today readers who really love it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was the first to offer the auto-seal lid, which I absolutely love. It also offers a NutriBoost feature, which creates movement inside the pot and helps make soups creamier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For basic, everyday cooking, it functions similarly to the others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has three pressure levels\u2014goes up to 15psi, which is the level required for canning. It&#8217;s still waiting for FDA approval, however, so can at your own risk.
